I know, I know, I am behind on so many posts. I haven’t talked about our mini vacation, *which sucked* I haven’t posted about my son moving down here and he’s been here for over a week now. All I can say in my defense, is I don’t have the freaking time lately. I don’t have a single second for just myself anymore. In fact as I am typing this, Mini Bug is screaming Mommmmmy Mommmmmy from her bed for like the 100th time. After the 99th time of going in there to see what she wants, I quit. She can yell mommmy till the cows come home, or she finally gets the message and falls asleep.
The day after Thanksgiving (which I haven’t post about our Thanksgiving either) one of my sons “good” teeth, broke in half. Almost instantly his face swelled up like a watermelon. I had my husband take him to the ER. They gave him an antibiotic and sent him home, with instructions to see a dentist. Which we couldn’t get into until after the weekend. So he was in horrible pain until Monday. I took him to the dentist early in the morning. The poor kid, I feel so bad for him. They have to cut his gum open to drain the infection. Novocaine does not work if you have an abscess. So he felt it all. The Dr made the incision, then packed it and put a “wick” in it. I have no freaking idea what a “wick” is. I took him back to the dentist today and they took the “wick” out but left the packing in to continue draining. He has another appointment next week to get the tooth pulled. It’s already cost over 400 dollars and the broken tooth is still in his mouth.
He is on social security disability and Medicare. Medicare does NOT pay for any dental. I have been busy calling everyone trying to figure out what to do. He needs all of his top teeth pulled. I called the local health department yesterday, they finally called me back today and said they discontinued the sliding scale pay dental program. That really was my last hope. If it cost 400 dollars to just treat one tooth, and it wasn’t even pulled yet, how much is it going to cost to get the rest of his rotten teeth removed? Holy cow, he so cant afford this. But the nasty teeth can NOT stay in his mouth.
So, that is just one of the many things I have been dealing with and why I am so absent in blogsville. I hope you all forgive me.
I did take some pictures of him. Meet asshole #2 son. Who I am so proud of right now. He has been drug free for 9 days. Nine days is a lot for an addict. I am thinking maybe there was a reason for his tooth breaking and his face being abscessed and having such horrible non stop pain. It took his mind of his withdrawal symptoms. He is doing very well in that department right now. I am praying hard that maybe he can actually beat it this time.

Wow, your plate if overflowing indeed. I hope the tooth issue is resolved soon.
I’m also sorry that your vacation didn’t turn out as you had hoped.
Good for your son being clean for 9 days. One day at a time.

Is there a dental school anywhere in your area? You might have to contact universities. They will do work free or low charge. He’s gonna need dentures too. Medicare is different in every state, where the hell do you live that they don’t cover dental at all?? That’s unbelievable. When I lived in MA they covered extraction only, but here in CT they cover everything! THANK GOD or I would have not a tooth or dentures. Last resort then, do you have relatives in a state that has dental…he could use their address…
There are ways to rebuild the teeth and kill infection but it gets expensive and takes a long time…colloidal silver for infection and “grow bone” by Garden of Life to rebuild teeth, plus Chinese herbs and not one bit of sugar in any form. Geez, I don’t know what else you can do, contact charities? Call dentists and beg (it’s been done)there is a dentist In MA who will see people for free on Sat mornings, she just cares about people. I’ve been through crap like this too, I needed surgery and had no insurance, months of torture and pain don’t even know how I survived. I think they’re trying to kill us off anyhow by denying medical help. Keep us posted, OK? I know how this mess can consume you, so take care.

My heart goes out to you and your son for his problems with his teeth. I hope the advice the commenter before me will help you find help.
I live in Sweden. If you imagine that healthcare is such here that everything here is free, it is not. I mention this as a form of comfort if you feel that you are living in the wrong country.
My grandfather was a dentist and of the kind that Rebecca describes in her comment. He felt deeply for the suffering of others and offered his serves to many patients that never could pay him. I met a man in an isolated mountain village who paid my grandfather by giving him a lake trout that he had caught himself. This man had very little or no cash. But this happened in the 1940’s.
My grandfather passed away 1968 and since then I have had many occations to not only miss him as a loving grandfather but his skill and knowledge as a dentist and dental surgeon.
I have thought about writing a longer post about this year with teeth, starting with my then seven-year-old son’s baby teeth that have given way for permanent teeth and a good friend’s unfortunate bad luck with his teeth. (He is not a drug-addict or alcoholic.) He had four front teeth knocked out by a drug-addict. And finally my oen bad luck of breaking a molar and not being able to crown out on. It was pulled. I have a big gap on one side of my mouth. Being able to chew and eat is a big problem when teeth don’t hold.
Yes, I was going to write this post and never did, because I thought it would be too sad and no one wouls want to read it.
