I have a twitter account, but I don’t know why. Could someone please tell me the benefits of twitter? What is it exactly. Just a bunch of short sentences? How does it help increase your blog traffic? How do you keep track of what everyone is saying? It’s just all so confusing to me. What is the benefit of having a lot of followers? I know I’m a little bit off, but every time I hear or think about the word “twitter” the song rockin robin comes into my head. Go Birdy Go!
I was also wondering what antispyware software everyone was using. I love to surf blogs, but lately my anti virus protection notification thing has been going off a lot while surfing. I just got a brand new dell desk top, have EST Nod 32 installed, but I am worried that it might not catch everything. Any suggestions?

It took me a while to figure twitter out – you just put little sentences out, what you’re doing, a blog post you just made, something you saw in the news and add a link back to whatever (your blog) That tweet then goes to the front page of everyone who is following you (if you look on your front page everyone you are following who makes a tweet it shows up there) you just kind of go through all those tweets and respond where you want to – make friends, etc.
As far as virus protection,I thought I was set and then today I got blasted here on EC with one of those fake virus protection software thingies and ended up with a whole bunch of little icons of porn sites on my desktop – now my husband thinks I sit around and look at porn all day – it took him about 6 hours to wipe all the viruses off my computer and I bet 90% come through EC blogs.

Sheila-first, please send me a message giving me the url of the blog that gave you the virus, I will get it out of the system fast! I have gone thru the backlog of all the reports sent and have cleared a lot of blogs out of the system. If anyone comes across a blog like that please send me a message either here or on EC messaging. I will take care of it. Everyone hates those kinds of blogs.
Now, twitter-I can never think of anything to say on there, it seems so silly. I don’t have many followers and it feels like I am talking to myself. I don’t know how to put links into twitter or any of that stuff.

I don’t care for Twitter or Facebook. Both of them I see not much of a point and Twitter the most useless.
I use Norton 360. I swear by it. This morning while dropping EC I was hit by a virus, but Norton took care of it. I love Norton 360.
Have a terrific day.

I use it as an RSS feed. I tried to do manual tweets a few times, but 140 characters is too short for my liking. My run on sentences are way longer than that, so three tweets would end up being one poorly constructed joke from me.

Sandee, do you remember the url of the blog?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
I use Twitter extensively in many different ways. First, and most important I use TwitterFeed What Twitterfeed does is that it subscribes to your RSS feed and posts automatically to your Twitter account when you update your blog. From this, all of my followers on Twitter see when I update my blog. On top of this, I have the Twitter application set up for Facebook, so my Tweets go automatically to Facebook too.
This helps me get more people reading my blog.
Beyond that, I add in a little chit-chat now and then on Twitter, so I don’t appear to be just another RSS feed or Bot. Here in Connecticut, we have “Tweet Crawls” where people who use Twitter get together for drinks once or twice a month. I’ve met some nice people this way, made new friends gotten new readers and so on from this.
When I am traveling I often tweet where I am, in case some other friend from Twitter is in the same city and we can get together.
One other thing that I do, is I go to a lot of conference and I provide play by play tweets of the conferences. I use a site called CoverItLive to aggregate those tweets and additional information into a blog post that provides details of the conference. I was just at the #dpac4 conference today and have that up.
That is all how I publish on Twitter. However, I also use it to track blogs I like as well as to stay on top of the news. Many news sites post their headlines to Twitter these days, and many of my friends often post headlines to important news stories that too often get missed by the mainstream news organizations.
So, there are a few brief thoughts about Twitter. I could go on and on about it, but I need to visit a few more websites before the night gets too late.

I’ve never had issues with virus until joining ec. My warning has been going off about every day lately. And, I’m on ec far less than I used to. I just keep closing pages when the warning sounds, no glue who’s page, cause it all happens so fast and I don’t take time closing…I do it pronto.
Twitter…I’m on, have been long before it was so popular; though for the life of me I don’t see why it is. Haven’t used it in a while.

Aldon, wow, thanks for visiting and commenting. How do I put my blogs url in my tweets? Do you really get a lot of traffic from twitter?
Sandy, Thanks for the comment. I try to get the infected blogs out of the system as fast as I can. I have to know where they are tho. If everyone reported them, it would make it much easier for me. I am almost all caught up on the backload of reported users, which was a lot of work.

I find Twitter to be pointless. I do <3 FB though.

I still have not completely utilized twitter to its fullest extent. If you had bought a mac, you wouldn’t have to worry about anti-virus software. =/

I don’t know which url I got the virus from – I wish I did, I’d like to wring their neck! I open a few tabs at a time and had already closed them when I realized there was a virus.

I could not have answered it better myself.
Twitter is simply just another source of networking. Reading out to more traffic basically as that seems to be the bottom line in the website/blogging world.
I use the Norton 360 @ Malware.
It seems like more and more bloggers are being infected…I have to wonder if it is the virus-protection techies that are creating job security
