I love living in Florida, I love the year round warm weather, I love the palm trees and the tropical look and feel. I’m not sorry I moved here but I have to admit there are some things that I have to adjust to.
I moved here from Pennsylvania where I lived in a very rural area. I felt safe. Most of the times I forgot to lock my doors. I didn’t even think about safety, or worry about it. My older children grew up playing on 5 acres and I never worried about anything. Times have changed.
Now that I live in a suburb, and have houses all around me, and major roads etc, home safety has been playing heavy on my mind. Especially about the kids. I worry about home invasions or getting robbed, or someone coming into my house in the middle of the night and taking one of the kids. I also worry about Mini Bug getting up in the middle of the night and going out of the house while everyone is sleeping. She knows how to unlock doors and she is very tall for a 3 yr old, she can open any door. We have a special lock on the slider that goes out to the pool area, but that’s about it, for special security.
I went to our county sheriffs web site, and found out that there are 105 sexual offenders living within a 5 mile radius of me. 105!! 4 of them being predators. That blew my mind. It also scares the daylights out of me. I live in a very nice neighborhood. I don’t live in a major huge city, and the homes are pricey here. I would never have dreamed that so many sex offenders live in one place.
Now, we are looking into a Home Security System. I want to make sure, nobody can get in, and also, I want to be aware if any doors are being opened. I want an alarm to go off if Mini Bug opens an outside door. I just want our family safe.
So I went to the ADT web site (because that is the only name I could think of when it comes to home security systems. I see the ADT decals in peoples windows and the little yard sign in home owners yards. I see it a lot down here, so they must be good.
I found this system that I think would be great for our home. It offers everything I am looking for like:
1 Safewatch QuickConnect Control Panel: Incorporates an easy-to-use touchpad, a siren and speaker into one convenient unit.
2 Wireless Door/Window Sensors: These devices are recommended for all doors and windows at ground level, windows near trees or shrubs, or doors and windows that are dark or hidden from view.
1 PIR Motion Detector – Wireless: Can help detect movement in rooms, hallways and on stairs, and helps reduce false alarms. Their sophisticated technology outperforms other motion detectors.
1 Wireless Keychain Remote: Allows you to turn your system on and off with the press of a button.
1 Power Supply and 24 Hour Battery: Provides power to your system and an extra high-capacity battery in case of power outage.
1 ADT Window Decal and Yard Sign: Warn potential intruders your home is protected by ADT.
The icing on the cake, is that they are offering a web special right now on the system I just showed you. One that I truly can’t pass up on. Dr. Corny and I will be talking about this tomorrow. I will show him all the details, the costs etc and see if he agrees with me, that this is the system that we do need. I think it is.

OMG, you’re reading my mind!
Our neighbors right next door were burglarized yesterday late morning and we disconnected our security system a few years back – today I called to have it hooked up again.
The economy is going to make it more and more dangerous.
As for protecting your children from harm – no amount of money in the world is too expensive for that!!!

I would like to know more about how you obtained this information from the sheriff’s office, so I can do likewise.

Mama – how scary! OMG right next door to you. I am glad that you got your system hooked back up. I agree with you, times are bad, and things are only going to get worse, desperate people do desperate things. Even in good times, bad people do bad things.
Security Guy – thanks for stopping bye and thanks for the great info
Pops – If you live in Florida, try this link. I don’t want to put the county I live in or the city I live in on line. http://offender.fdle.state.fl.us/offender/homepage.do
If you don’t live in FL, just do a google search for the state you live in.

It’s freaky enough in so many neighborhoods where I live, that getting a security system of some sort is a foregone conclusion. Getting one of those sex offender reports is really just if you need another reason to finally get a system for your home because you finally have a clear picture of how much danger you and your family can really be in.

There is great comfort when one feels safe and secure. Everyone loves comfort and when one is secure there is comfort. Everywhere, we are weary if something happens which will make us discomfort because of insecurity. But thanks to effective innovations.
